The Missing Piece of Your Fitness Journey: Kindness & Community

Spoiler: It’s not about pushing harder—it’s about feeling better, together.

Let’s be real for a second: for so many of us—especially women who came of age in the early 2000s—fitness wasn’t about feeling good. It was about shrinking, tightening, flattening. It was a means to an end. A body goal. A punishment.

I know, because I lived it.

As a teenager, I dreaded PE. I’d do anything to get out of it. I didn’t feel strong. I didn’t feel confident. Exercise wasn’t empowering—it was something I had to do to look a certain way. I didn’t know then that it didn’t have to be that way.

Fast forward to now, and I’m a certified personal trainer, fitness instructor, and hold an MSc in Sports Science. And the thing that changed everything for me wasn’t a new workout or diet plan—it was a complete shift in mindset.

It was learning how to move with kindness. And realising how powerful it is to move with others.

Introducing: Kind Moves

A new kind of fitness platform—one rooted in compassion, connection, and sustainable strength.

When I created Kind Moves, it wasn’t just about offering great workouts (though yes, there are plenty!). It was about rewriting the fitness narrative many of us grew up with—the one that says you need to hustle, grind, and push through pain to get “results.”

Kind Moves is here to remind you that your body is not a problem to be fixed. It’s a partner to be cared for. And movement? It should build you up, not break you down.

Why Kindness Matters in Fitness

There’s a lot of noise in the fitness world. Quick fixes. Bootcamp-style programs. “No pain, no gain” messaging. But here’s the truth:

👉 Long-term, sustainable fitness has to come from a place of kindness.

When we treat our bodies with respect—choosing movement that feels good and supports our overall well-being—we’re more likely to stick with it, enjoy it, and benefit from it.

Kindness in fitness looks like:

  • Listening to your energy levels and adjusting accordingly

  • Celebrating progress that isn’t just about aesthetics

  • Moving for how it makes you feel, not just how it makes you look

Ditching the guilt when you rest

The Power of Community—Even Online

We’re not meant to do this alone. In fact, community is one of the most powerful (and underrated) tools in your fitness journey.

Research backs this up:
📚 A 2021 review published in Psychology of Sport and Exercise found that group-based physical activity significantly improves exercise adherence, mental well-being, and social connection.
📚 Another study in Health Psychology showed that people working out in groups (even virtually) had more positive attitudes toward exercise and felt more supported and motivated.

Whether it’s the friendly face of an instructor on your screen, a message from someone in your online workout group, or a shared “we did it!” after a tough set—community makes movement more meaningful.

And that’s a big part of what Kind Moves is all about.

Rewriting the Story

I used to punish my body with exercise that didn’t feel good. I thought that’s what I had to do to be “fit.” But now, I know better—and I want you to know it too.

Fitness isn’t a chore or a punishment. It’s a gift. It’s a celebration of what your body can do. And when you approach it with compassion and community? That’s where the magic happens.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve ever felt like fitness wasn’t for you—like you didn’t “fit” in the gym space, or dreaded workouts that left you feeling worse instead of better—Kind Moves is here for you.

We move in ways that feel good, support your body, and help you build real strength—mentally and physically. We cheer each other on, rest without guilt, and grow together.

Because fitness should be kind.
And it should be shared.
